What’s On

January 15, 2009 · 5 Comments

Can you believe it? We’re halfway through May 2009 already! We have lots of activities planned for this year. Below is just a sample of what has been happening at NALIS.

Calendar Launch
Games we used to playNALIS launched its 2009 Calendar in tribute to those bygone days when “play” meant being outdoors, running, laughing, climbing trees and making friends that lasted a lifetime. The calendar features illustrations and descriptions of the games we played in yesteryear, such as Spinning top, Pitch, Jacks and Hopscotch. Illustrations were done by Lana Thompson and creative design by Mical Marketing Limited. For information on how to purchase these calendars visit our website.

Living Heritage Series: El Tucuche
lclarke2 An exhibition of Leroy Clarke’s work was displayed in the media room of the National Library Building. This exhibition represented a window through which one viewed snapshots of the rich life and spirit of Leroy Clarke on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The artist is the first recipient of the Living Heritage Series’ El Tucuche Award.

One Book One Community
Our One Book, One Community programme was launched on 3rd March. We featured the book All That Glitters by Michael Anthony.

Look out for more activities throughout the year as we strive to improve our services. Visit any of our libraries located throughout the country, to find out more about the programmes being offered in your area. Don’t sit on the sidelines. Get to the library.

    Hi Leslieann,

Thank you for your comment. Yes, you are right, “The Year in San Fernando” is a really nice book.

However, the chosen book “All that Glitters” is cited by the author as being his favorite.

It is our hope that as a nation we will be able to read this book and enjoy all the richness it brings to us.

This year’s One Book One Community promises to be just as interesting as the years past.

Looking forward to your future comments as we all read together.

    Thanking you,

    Your Librarian

I visited the library on the Friday before carnival, looking for bookmarks or other information on the one book one community. was out of luck. Is it like a book club, where we can share opinions and views about ” All That Glitters”?
